Pushing Changes To Your GitHub Portfolio

How to push changes

When you make changes to your project in the TechSmart platform, you will notice the GitHub button labeled "Push Changes"

This will start the Push Changes wizard, which will walk you through the necessary steps to update your GitHub repository with your updated TechSmart code or project files.

You'll be asked to add a "Commit message" or a short description of the changes made since your last push. This helps keep track of updates and changes in GitHub.

IMPORTANT: Changes made outside the TechSmart platform will be lost!

If you make any changes to your project directly through GitHub.com or any other source outside of the TechSmart platform, those changes will be overwritten and lost when you push updates from the TechSmart platform. To ensure your work is not lost:

  • Always make project changes within the TechSmart platform to be sure your work is preserved and reflected in your GitHub portfolio.
  • Avoid making direct edits to your repository on GitHub unless you intend for those to be temporary or are sure you will not need to export from TechSmart again.

This approach will ensure that your portfolio remains up-to-date with your latest work as you develop your skills on the TechSmart platform and help maintain a consistent, error-free version of your projects.

In the event you make changes outside of the TechSmart platform that gets overwritten when you push your changes, you may be able to see the previous data in GitHub's Commit history or Activity View. You can learn more about this in the GitHub Help Center.
